Sorry for the LONG delay….
As you might have guessed – we got into the really crunch time in our shoot – and all my attention was completely focused on finishing the film. You’ll be happy to hear that we finished shooting exactly as scheduled – to the day.
Given the demands of this project and the logistics of shooting an action (with horses, stunts, kids and visual effects)/drama (with incredible actors) film across 6 diverse states of Mexico in 12 weeks – it was quite a feat for all involved.
Our entire crew was beyond fantastic.
What a summer!
I’m in the USA now – just beginning the editing phase – and will begin posting blogs – catching everyone up on what happened the last weeks of the shoot – plus what’s going on with the project from this point forward.
Again – thank you for your patience and understanding with the drop off in postings…
Stay tuned….

Dean,
I enjoined the updates; I thank God for your work. My family had suffered as most families in Mexico during this hidden part of History when the world was silent. My tough grandmother, Silvina GarcÃa Barragán, was a Cristero supporter, if not also a fighter during the first and 2nd Cristero war (1933-1939), she thought that no one cared about what they did to keep the faith; I know she is smiling in heaven seeing all of God’s wonderful people in your film bringing to light the cost they paid, for their religious freedom. My mother, Elvira Cardenas Garcia (Ploneda), who at the age of 6 escaped an ambush, but lost 3 neighbors, was very surprised that you could actually bring it to the public’s eye without disappearing from the earth.
God Bless you,
Jose Jesus Ploneda Cardenas

This update thrills me, as do the other comments. I would really really like to be closer to this kind of venture, and applaud you for your efforts. How can I make sure this film is distributed in Western North Carolina, where there are many many Mexicans who need to know about it.
Looking forward to the film. Any news of the release date or trailer?
I’m anxiously waiting the relase of this movie and his presentation in the cinemas of Mexico.

When does the movie come out in the US? I want to see it!
Thank you for all your hard work and effort to bring to the public eye the glorious history of the courageous Catholics of Mejico who suffered such a brutal repression by the Masonic / Liberal government that controlled Mejico during that time.
!VIVA CRISTO REY!
I am very proud about the American cristianity because this important history, therefore I like this film were made in orden that people know about this, and as I see the film was made with excellent quality… I just think this has a obvious weakness: ¿WHY THIS IS IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE THAN SPANISH??….
Please notice that I don’t have any against English, simply for me this seems an absurd that it weren’t in the original language of the characters and even of the actors. I’m sure this could be excelently subtitled or translated into English and any other language…. I think the film lost a lot of their potential richness speaking in a foreing language.
Just think in the case of other films like The Passion, or Unglorious Basterds (just for mention a pair of excelent films on my opinion)… those wouldn’t be the same if they would been made just in English.
Anyway, I wish you God blessed you! Do this better the next time please!!
la pelicula se ve que estra genial me gustaria que hubiera mas fotos
i just got passes to be part of an advanced screening of this movie! i cannot wait!
May God give us the courage to enter the spiritual battle under the banner of
Christ the King.
“Viva Cristo Rey!” …
Long live Christ the King!
I hope there will be enough publicity and marketing that it will reach North Carolina. Seeing this film is a top priority for me.
¿Para cuando se calcula, aproximadamente, que llegará esta ansiada pelÃcula a los cines de España?
Muchas felicidades por el valor y la calidad que desprende (según el trailer) esta pelÃcula. Seguro que será excelente.
Wow I was at a lost for words when I found out they were creating this film. The Cristero war played an immense part in my families history due to the fact that my great grandfather was a captain during this war. A lot other relatives were also apart of this historical incident and were actually made into martyrs amongst their death. The story goes that when the soldiers killed them, a sudden gust of wind blew flowers off of the nearby trees and landed on the deceased cristeros. Then it unexpectedly began to rain, washing away the blood on the ground. It would be amazing if this incident was included in the movie. For anyone who wants to learn more about this crucial yet interesting part in Mexicanhistory here is a helpful link I used to learn about the Cristero war: http://cincominutos.com.mx/2011/04/26/adolescencia-que-vivo-jose-sanchez-del-rio/
Thank you Dean for sharing your blog with us I really enjoyed it and my family and I can’t wait to see it in theatres!
God bless you all for this fantastic work!!!
What’s the status of this film? Thanks
My grandfather (a general in the Cristiada) escaped execution, but his uncle did not. La Cristiada was very difficult for my grandparents to talk about because they had to go into hiding, change their names, and had so many loved one’s martyred. It is amazing to see this film will be coming out soon! Our family can’t wait, and my boys who know about their great grandpa, the Cristero, abuelito Pedro, are excited to see this too!
